Iroko Lumber Appearance and Design Attributes

  • Characteristics
    USES:  Boat Building, Furniture, Architectural Millwork, Doors, Flooring. Teak Substitute.
    ORIGINS:  West Coast of Africa primarily Ivory Coast, Gabon and the Cameroons
    BOTANICAL NAME:  Chlorophora excela
    COMMON NAME:  African Teak
    COLOR DETAILS:  Sapwood is yellowish white, Heartwood can be either dark chocolate brown to light tan color
    WEIGHT:  approx 4 lbs per B.F.
    WORKABILITY:  Carbide Tips recommended, machines well but with some tearing of interlocked grain. Can be a challenge to glue.

    Iroko Lumber for Sale

    Although unrelated to Teak, Iroko is one of 2 species referred to as African Teak.  The other specie that is called African Teak is Afrormosia.  The general apperance as well the ability to use in outdoor applications make Iroko a good substitute for Teak.  Wood Vendors supplies rough lumber, surfacing, ripping, s4s, panels, and custom Iroko flooring.
