FSC Certified 4/4, 5/4, 6/4, 8/4, 10/4 Walnut Lumber for Sale
Wood Vendors supplies FSC Certified Walnut Lumber from the central states area of America. This region is known worldwide as the best growing region for "Juglans nigra". FSC Certified Walnut is harvested and produced under the strict guidelines of the Forest Stewardship Council, insuring the least impact on the environment. Lumber produced under these guidelines is eligible for LEED credits.
A large majority of North American walnut hardwood lumber produced is steamed. The steaming process blends the stark color difference between the dark heartwood and the white sapwood. Walnut lumber is graded on a scale that allows more defects than other woods such as red oak, cherry and alder. This is due to the nature of wood itself, walnut wood tends to have more knots and other defects than other species. The main things to consider when buying walnut are grade (clarity or clear cuttings in the wood) and color (black- heartwood percentage). FAS "First and Seconds" is the clearest grade of black walnut lumber, while #1 common, or rustic grades will have more knots and other defects. Color is a separate issue from grade. Although walnut wood is steamed to blend the heart and sap, there is still discernible difference in color between the two. Luckily most sapwood occurs on the edge of boards allowing this part to be ripped off when prepping the lumber for use.
