Botanical Name: "Peltogyne spp."
Other Common Names: Violetwood, Pala morado
Origin: Central America, Brazil
Uses: Furniture, Turnings, Intarsia, General Construction in origin countries. Can be used outdoors.
Weight: Approximately 5.5 lbs per BF.
Properties: Extremely Heavy, Dense and Hard. Very Stable.
Workability: Machines and Finishes well, Carbide Tips recommended, Low Silica content, but slower knife speeds recommended to avoid "burning" wood. Can be hard to sand mechanically due to oils in wood.
Color: Bright Purple with exposure to light, turns dark brown over time.
