USES: African Mahogany wood is a high-end hardwood used in architectural millwork, custom furniture, paneling, moulding, boat interiors and in musical instruments.
ORIGINS: Throughout Northern Africa primarily Ivory Coast, Gabon, Sierra Leon and Liberia
BOTANICAL NAME: Most U.S. imports are"Khaya ivorensis" but "Khaya anthotheca" and "Khaya grandifoliola" is also imported.
COMMON NAMES: Khaya
COLOR DETAILS: Darkens with sunlight and tends to maintain color variation.
SPECIAL PROPERTIES: Khaya Mahogany can be used for both indoor and outdoor applications.

African mahogany is a member of the Meliaceae (true mahogany) family, the same family as South American "Swietenia macrophylla". Typically Khaya mahogany is available in quartersawn or "ribbon" cut as well as mixed grain or flat sawn. Let us know the look you wish to achieve and we will do our best to come up with a solution for you. Random width and length, rough lumber works for many customers, but others require surfacing, ripping or dimensional hardwoods (s4s- surfaced four sides). Specific pulls or sorts are also available on a custom basis. Often times we have 6-7' mahogany available at greatly reduced prices. Why buy mahogany lumber in longer lengths than is needed?
