Maple Wood Characteristics
USES: Maple wood is a used in a wide variety of applications including flooring, cabinets, furniture, stair parts and millwork
ORIGINS: Throughout Northern North America, especially the North East.
BOTANICAL NAME: "Acer saccharum".
OTHER COMMON NAMES: White maple, sugar maple, hard rock maple.
COLOR DETAILS: Hard maple sapwood is white and the heartwood is brown.

Wood Vendors supplies only the finest Hard Maple Lumber from select hardwood mills in Wisconsin and the North-Eastern U.S. When buying hard maple wood it is important to consider both the color and grade of the lumber. Color is the percentage of white sapwood. For instance 1+2 white is graded for white cuttings on the face and edges with at least 50% white on the reverse face. The clearest standard grade (FAS, Select, Prime) in hard maple lumber calls for a minimum of 83 1/3% clear face cuttings, while #1 common requires at least 66 2/3% clear face cuttings. Most users are looking for either clear cuttings or knotty, rustic maple. Rustic hard maple is used frequently in commercial and residential applications that are meant to have an antique or a country style look.

best character imaginable. In fact, because these orders were so similar in appearance, and even though the orders were stretched over many months, I
was able to use left overs from one project for the next with stock from a different order. I love this site, love the wood, and love the service. I
