Alder Wood Characteristics
USES: Alder wood is used in doors, furniture, cabinets, mouldings, guitars
ORIGINS: North America, primarily British Columbia, Washington and Oregon
BOTANICAL NAME: "Alnus rubra"
COMMON NAMES: Red Alder
COLOR DETAILS: Consistent red throughout
WORKABILITY: Finishes and machines extremely well, takes stain and glues well. Similar to Cherry.

It is relatively soft for a hardwood, making it very easy to work with. Because of its grain pattern, alder mimics the look of walnut or cherry, with the proper staining. Currently knotty alder trim and cabinets are very popular in high end homes as well as in cabins. In addition to lumber we also sell alder s4s (surfaced four sides), knotty alder mouldings and alder plywood. We also work directly with a custom alder sawmill that is able to produce alder beams in custom sizes.
At Wood Vendors we only sell hardwoods, so we are able to focus strictly on this market. We bring many years of domestic hardwood lumber supply experience to each and every alder inquiry. Tom, Overall, I am satisfied with the Alder wood I ordered from you. However, I do have one piece that happens to be the largest, that is
approximately 10" wide by 8' that is nearly unusable. It is very warped. I would rate the lumber a 4. If it wasn't for that one piece, I'd rate it 5.

Tom, We picked up our 4/4 alder lumber today and are very pleased with it. I have not unloaded it yet but the quality of the lumber appears to be
top drawer. Josh had it neatly packaged with heavy plastic wrap and strapping and had sized the bundle perfectly for my small pickup. Loading went
without a hitch - I'm always surprised at the precision a forklift operator has - and the trip to Newport went very well. Thanks for all your
